Welcome to Tukae

Tukae is a registered charity working in the Usambara Mountains regions of N. E. Tanzania. Amani, the area where Tukae operates, is remote, communication systems are limited and the people are poor. There is no healthcare provision in most villages, and it can take two hours hard driving to get to a doctor. Travel is on foot or in the back of pick-ups or trucks. Malaria and other poverty related diseases are endemic; infant and maternal mortality rates are high.     

HEALTH
Our aim is to improve the health of the communities within which we work.

EDUCATION
Provision is limited. Not all receive primary education; very few secondary education. This disadvantages the whole community. Class sizes are large, buildings are inadequate and teaching resources are negligible.

Our aim is to raise the education, provision and standards available to the communities in the area.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
The East Usambaras are remote and job opportunities are few. Many people are subsistence farmers and have no cash income.

Our aim is to identify and establish revenue-generating projects that will develop skills and create jobs.
