| Located about 80km from Tanga, 35km from Muheza, the Amani Nature Reserve has a rich array of vegetation and wildlife, together with well-established hiking routes. It has been declared one of the 25 biodiversity hotspots in the world, containing a high concentration of endemic species. |
| About 3,400 various species of vegetation have been recorded in the area, including about 650 different species of trees. Around 350 species of birds live in the Eastern Usambara Forest, many of them rare and endangered. |
| Of the 23 species of African violets, 19 of them are found in Tanzania (the other four are in Kenya). In Amani, it is possible to see four of the nineteen Tanzanian species. |
| Night walks in the forest are highly recommended, when the sounds of nature are at their most active. |
| Located on the edge of the Amani Nature Reserve, the site of Emau Hill Forest Camp is also very beautiful. The buildings have been designed sympathetically to fit into the
environment and offer a peaceful location for visitors to enjoy the Eastern Usambaras. |
| Buildings have makuti (palm thatch) roofs, showers use rain as the main source of water and there are dry composting toilets. |
