Our current group of volunteers

It was an enormous pleasure for me to meet the latest group of volunteers to teach English in Amani and IBC primary schools. Their enthusiasm for everything here and willingness to do their best in the schools was marked. Their laughter and conversation added to the last few weeks of my stay. Good luck to them all!
Althea A Stevens UK Co-ordinator

"Teaching English at Amani school is never the same 2 days in a row; one day you may be singing '10 green bottles' teaching 7 year olds to count, and the day after you might be teaching prepositions to 14 year olds, about to sit their national exams! There truly is never a dull day at Amani school."

"Emau Hill is a fantastic base to come home to after a busy day's teaching. 5 pm is the best time of day- 'Pita O'clock' as its become known, when Vincent and Rosa make hot Pita breads - there's nothing quite like it. The teaching is hugely rewarding and an amazing experience - especially hearing 100+ 12 year olds sing 'You to me are everything' by Barry White, to you on Valentines's Day."
Kate

"The location of Emau Hill is amazing. Every view I see I want to take a photo. We are being spoilt too, all the food is so good and topped up with the odd chocolate bar from the cupboard couldn't be much better."
Claire

"Emau Hill has become our 2nd home and not only because when we get 'home' at the end of the day full of screaming excitable kids chanting 'teacha, teachaaa' - there is a distinct lack of noise and mayhem. There is also the friendly welcoming staff; Vincent always laughing, and Rosa ready to get us water for a shower and of course the highlight of our day, Pita O'clock! Marmite!"
Steph

"Before getting out to Emau Hill I had purposely made my expectations as low as possible so I was, therefore, in an enormous state of shock to find something so wonderful in every way. It's clear that the combination of Tukae and the church is giving huge amounts to the local community, but to be honest nothing compares to the culinary skills of Vincent the cook."
Henry

"If I don't write something in the next 2 minutes Steph is probably going to hit me with a star fish. So I'll say this - teaching African kids English is not for the faint hearted, but once you learn to gain control of a class of a hundred plus kids, it gets easier. Now if I can just learn to gain control of a class of a hundred plus kids..."
