Stephen Valentine sent the following:
Once again Emau Hill and Tukae say goodbye to another group of volunteers; Annie, Olly, Charlie, Yoshie, Kate and Mikkel have come to the end of their time with us. Mikkel is leaving for his home in Denmark on the 12 April; the rest are having a break on Zanzibar before leaving. They all say they have had a terrific time. Emau is going to be very quiet without them.
Both Msasa IBC and Amani schools put on excellent farewells for the teachers who worked there, with gifts being exchanged in both directions. At IBC the volunteeers were asked to plant commemorative trees. After this the children put on a great display of singing and dancing. Complimentary comments both about the volunteers and the work of Tukae were made by those who delivered speeches.
Fr Baruti, Caroline and Stephen were taken by surprise when, in recognition of Tukae's contribution to the village and the school, they were made village Elders. We all felt very touched by this and thought it a great honour.
Thanks to these volunteers and to all who have come here to help make a difference. This we are doing and it becomes more noticeable as the work of one group of people builds on the work of those who preceded them. |
