Ewan and Jenni Wilson have been with Tukae in Tanzania since 18 September 2004. This is their first report of their experiences dated 23rd October.
Jenni:
I have been really enjoying teaching at IBC school. The children are so lovely, and treat me as if I am royalty, fighting each other to carry my bags and to help me in any way possible. The staff are so welcoming and each week give us a present such as a pineapple or bananas which really means so much to us. The lack of the resources at the school has really shocked me. They have hardly any text books, not enough desks and many of the children's clothes are in tatters. A large proportion do not have shoes either. Two girls from my work back in the UK, Florence Gauvin and Helen Blackburn have decided to raise funds for IBC School to provide them with desks and stationery. They are working very hard and are doing really well at the moment so I am over the moon.
We are organising IBC's first sports day for this Friday and have been busy making medals out of cardboard and string and have bought material to make sashes for the different teams. They are going to absolutely love it and I just can't wait.
Ewan:
Ewan has been busy working at Emau and IBC Health posts. He has provided a first aid course for us and a few of the staff at Emau. He is also doing a seminar next week for women on "teeth, hygiene and clean water".
He has also been helping out at the Fazale hospital and this weekend has done two training sessions teaching "trauma and emergencies" to the doctors and nurses.
He is looking forward to this weekend as it is Liz's birthday and we have invited all the staff at Emau to a Scottish party. Ewan is half scottish so looking forward to teaching them a couple of scottish dances with Liz. Shame he hasn't got his kilt! On Sunday the parish are holding a party for us so we are very excited and it really is party party here in Tanzania at the moment! |
